在英文寫作和會話，有時我們需舉出例子以輔助說明。說到舉例，常見的字詞有 “for example”, “for instance”, “e.g.” 和 ”such as”等。可是，他們之間有差別嗎？其實意思上是一樣的；但用法上，則略有不同。
For example 和 For instance
兩者均可用於句子的開首位置；使用它們之後，我們一般會加上 ”comma”的，例如：
Michelle likes all kinds of ball games. For example / For instance, she is good at playing football, badminton and basketball.
Michelle 喜歡各種類型的球類活動。例如，她擅長踢足球、打羽毛球和打籃球。
e.g.
原本是拉丁文 “exempli gratia”，意思都是「舉例」。用法上，在 “ e.g.” 之前會加上一個 comma ( , )，例如：
You can buy whatever snacks you like, e.g. potato chips or cookies.
你可買你喜歡的零食，例如薯片或 曲奇餅。
The U.S. government is considering different plans to boost the economy, e.g. building new infrastructures or providing more subsidies for businesses.
美國政府正考慮不同的計劃推動經濟，例如興建新的基礎建設或為企業提供更多津貼。
such as
而 “such as”，用法上則和 ”e.g.” 甚為相近，用 “such as” 前我們都會加上一個 comma ( , ) 的。例如：
‧ Parents nowadays have invested a huge amount of money in nurturing their kids, tuition fees and toys.
‧ 今時今日的父母，會為培養子女投資大量金錢，例如教育開支和買玩具上。
值得一提，若只舉一例，其實可以把 commas 省去的，例如：
‧ Chinese regional cuisines such as Cantonese are famous around the world.
中國的地方菜倄，例如廣東菜，在世界都是享負盛名的。
