批改學生的作文時，時不時會留意到同學會混淆了beside和besides兩個字。這裏，我嘗試解釋它們的分別。
beside
詞性
從詞性來說，beside是介詞(又叫作前置詞)，用法上和in, on, at 等相近，都是用來表示某人或某事物的位置；而它的意思是「在ｘｘｘ旁邊」。
例子
The building is located beside the library and office.
建築物位於圖書館和辦公室的旁邊。
besides
詞性
besides，它是介詞，亦是副詞，有「此外」或「而且」的意思。
例子
當它作介詞時，用法如下：
Do you have any other plans besides emigrating to America?
除了移民到美國去，你還有其他的計劃嗎？
當作副詞時，它的用法如下：
We are all exhausted from working. Besides, it’s really so late. Let’s discuss this tomorrow!
大家都已經工作得很累了。而且，現在已經很晚了。我們明天再談吧﹗
